Sustainable Food Systems.
Recently, Mike co-founded NovaChirp, a social-entrepreneurship venture hoping to provide consumers with a sustainable and affordable protein alternative derived from crickets. NovaChirp was one of a select group of start-ups worldwide to compete in the Summit Series for the Hult Prize in Lisbon, Portugal last June. The Hult competition challenges young entrepreneurs to solve the planet's most pressing issues by creating a for-profit, world-changing business idea that aligns with at least one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
At Dartmouth, Mike helped teach classes in Sustainable Food Systems and Agroecology. Last summer, he undertook experimental field-research to help inform how farmers can co-plant various crops to better influence nitrogen fixation and thus produce higher crop output.
As a passionate environmentalist, Mike has organized various excursions and guest speakers for his peers to explore how our food systems affect both the environmental and human communities.
As a Member of Parliament, Mike would continue to advocate for an increased emphasis on localized food production efforts.

As an Environmental Studies major, he also worked with the American Forest Foundation to develop and enhance their carbon credit program, interviewing landowners from across the continent and compiling his team’s findings into a comprehensive report.
As an MP, Mike would work with Mark Carney and the Liberal caucus to create optional incentives for Canadians to go-green in all aspects of their daily lives.
